 As an approved sponsor for RID’s Certification Maintenance Program SLA can offer you several ways to earn Independent Study credits:
- Academic - If you take a course at an accredited educational facility you can earn CEUs. Semester systems earn 1.5 CEUS per credit hour; Quarter systems earn 1 CEU per credit hour. Simply send SLA an Academic Coursework Activity Plan & Report Form.
- Conferences- If you attend any large meeting, workshop, or a conference that is not RID related, you can still earn RID CEUs. We calculate contact hours or hours that you attend the event. If it were from 9 - 4 you would need to remember to subtract the hour for lunch and it would be 6 contact hours. We would give you .6 CEUs for that. You’ll need to send SLA a Participant Initiated Non-RID Activities Form (PINRA) Form.
- Independent Studies - This is the most flexible and allows the most creativity. Send us an Independent Study Form to create your own plan or use one of our E-Z CEUs.
Independent Studies need sponsors. As your sponsor, SLA will create a CMP file for your project, initiate all RID paperwork, monitor your progress, review your documentation and submit final paperwork to RID and close your file (which is kept active for the life of your CMP cycle). For our work you will be charged an administration/processing fee of $50.00. EZ-CEU packages cost $60.00 and include the cost of administration.
