Interpreters! If you plan to be in the Washington D.C. area and want to work while you're here, SLA can offer you interpreting assignments as a “Working Vacation.” You decide how much you want to work and what kinds of experiences you'd like. SLA will design a schedule to fit your parameters.
- Let us know about the kinds of experience you want from your visit to the Washington, D.C. area.
- If you want to use this visit specifically for skill building and professional development opportunities, let us know that, too.
- SLA will build a schedule based on your preferences.
To initiate a working vacation request:
- Contact Jana Owen Beckford 301-962-3076 to let us know of your interest.
- Send SLA a videotape of your voice-to-sign and sign-to-voice skills. See our videotape guidelines for help in making your videotape.
SLA will:
- Review your video,
- Call to talk about further arrangements.
- Use our fee formula to set your hourly rate or a weekly rate.
- Send you Working Vacation handbook that explains the system here at SLA for getting your jobs and utilizing the support services here at the office.
We look forward to working with you!
